Report: SWAT officers from nearby town suspended for Florida school shooting response

MIRAMAR, Fla. (WPEC) - Two SWAT team members from a nearby city are suspended for responding to the deadly Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Florida, according to a report from the Sun-Sentinel.

Both SWAT members were from the city of Miramar but were close to the high school when the shooting occurred.

According to the report, the police department states that the officers were not given permission to respond to the Parkland shooting and thus created an officer safety issue, ultimately violating department policy.

The Sun-Sentinel said the officers, Detective Jeffrey Gilbert and Detective Carl Schlosser, were informed of their suspension from the SWAT program but remain on active duty for other assignments.

Broward County Sheriff's Department told the paper Wednesday Miramar's SWAT team was "not needed" during the incident. However, they were placed on standby by the Miramar police department in the event they were needed.
