Circa's Devon Smith sat down with Micha Green, a journalist with The AFRO, and Akil Wilson to talk about DACA on this week's episode of 'We Need to Talk'.
On Monday, March 5th, President Donald Trump's deadline for ending DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, arrived. Despite, Trump's decision last year to end the program by March 5th, unless protected by a legislative solution provided by Congress, the Obama era program still remains. The pressure for the deadline was eased through a court order that has forced the Trump Administration to continue issuing renewals of the program. The renewals do not apply to first time applicants.
About 700,000 people who were brought to the United States as children have received DACA protection since 2012. The program gives DACA recipients, or DREAMERS, who qualify two-year renewable permits to live and work in the US.
