BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) — A 17-year-old female student died and another student was injured in a shooting at a Birmingham-area high school just before 4 p.m. Wednesday, police confirm.
Sergeant Shelton of Birmingham Police says two Huffman High School students were involved in what police are calling an "accidental shooting."
According to a Birmingham City Schools representative, the school was placed on a "brief lockdown" after the shooting during dismissal.
Sgt. Shelton says both students have been transported to UAB Hospital.
Parents are being allowed to pick up their children from Huffman High School, and police are actively investigating the shooting, school offiicals say.
