Oprah Winfrey has sold about a quarter of her stake in Weight Watchers International according to the former talk show host’s production company Harpo.
Winfrey sold shares in the range of about 8 to 9 times the price she paid for them, reflecting the massive increase in the company's value since she vouched for its weight-loss program.
A portion of the shares were donated to the Oprah Winfrey Charitable Foundation, and she will retain over 75 percent of her holdings in the weight management company, Harpo said in a statement.
Winfrey bought a 10% stake in the company for $43 million in 2015 and joined its board of directors that year.
“I am deeply committed to Weight Watchers and continue to see a bright future for the company,” said Winfrey, who will continue in her role as board member, advisor and spokesperson.
Weight Watchers shares fell 3.9% in pre-market trading Wednesday to $56.15 after tumbling 4.3% on Tuesday.
