Marvel. Disney. Iron Man’s very cool helmet. All incredibly powerful forces in the vast web of mass media that is entertainment consumption in 2018. Indeed, like the ship of the mighty Thanos, Avengers: Infinity War is moving slowly into the horizon and — a week sooner than originally planned. The film moved its release date from May 4th to April 27th. Something that’s good news for Disney and Marvel, and bad news for every single other studio. So what does this change ultimately mean? Here to discuss the latest in blockbuster are our hosts — Ryan Mitchell, Shira Lazar — and our special guest, Jasmin Savoy Brown, who can be seen on ABC’s “For the People”, airing on March 13th on ABC! So would do they have to say about this date change?
Shira talks about how this is a power play, and Ryan thinks this is meant to capitalize off of the hype of Black Panther, given how much of the movie takes place in the Black Panther’s home country in Wakanda. Jasmin wonders though — would a week make that much difference? Martine wonders though — does this break the honor system of studios? Will other films shift around their release dates? Is it shady? Ryan agrees. Yes. It is shady. But he’s still going to see it!!!
