Although many elected officials are still ignoring the voices of those who are demanding tougher action on gun control following the Parkland shooting in Florida, Dick’s Sporting Goods store has reacted quickly and will no longer be selling assault rifles at its store. Dick’s will also be raising the minimum age requirement in order to buy a gun. In a letter describing their decisions, mentioned how the Parkland shooter purchased an assault rifle at their chain (not the one he used in the shooting), but that and listening to the students have made them take a more sober look at the effect of their weapons. This move has been praised by celebrities such as Alyssa Milano and Josh Gad, and here to talk about the effect of the Dick’s Sporting Goods weapons ban are our Circa Pop Live Hosts, Ryan Mitchell and Shira Lazar, and our special guest, vlogger and musician Meghan Tonjes. You can check out Meghan Tonjes' podcast, “People Keep Talking”, here.
First, the group laughs, rightfully so, about how it seems that everyone is doing something about gun violence except the actual politicians. Jeez. Good job all, I guess. Ryan himself says he’s glad that corporations are stepping forward, and Meghan is discussing how it shows them in an excellent light that they’re coming forward about the shooter buying a gun at their location, before the public even knew. Shira discusses how she is happy about this new trend — where corporations grow a conscience where politicians cannot.
