WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) - There is no shortage of dating apps on the market but one company "Pheramor" wants to change the way you look for love by testing your DNA to find an ideal partner.
In an interview with HLN, CEO and co-founder Asma Mirza explained that there is a part of human DNA that “encodes for attraction.” Mirsa explained that your genetics play a part in pheromone profiles and her company is working to use that as a basis for this new app.
“The more differentiated the DNA between two individuals, the more likely they are to be attracted to one another,” Pheramore states on their webpage.
The company sends participants a “Pheramor Kit” containing a swab to take a saliva sample and a pre-stamped envelope to mail it back in.
Our new app's use of #DNA comes from a study where women smelled and rated men's sweaty shirts. Scientists sequenced everyone's genes and found that more DNA diversity = more attraction. We do the same with cheek swabs and an app and no one has to smell a gross shirt. #science— Pheramor (@pheramor) February 1, 2018
The company does not look at a person’s entire genome, just the 11 genes scientists found are related to attraction.
“This means we do NOT look at any genes associated with disease, race, hair color, height, etc — nothing, except attraction,” the website states.
The app does offer participants to link social media profiles and add personal information in addition to their DNA. The algorithm then combines all information provided through the app to match participants with an ideal partner.
Pheramor launched their app during the last week of February in Houston.
