A young student goes viral after powerful rendition of the national anthem without a mic

WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) -- A student named Christian Melton is going viral on Facebook after singing the national anthem at her high school's basketball game.

The rendition of the Star Spangled Banner was performed at Central High School in Ashford, Ala., according to a news agency ViralHog, who captured the rights to share the video on YouTube.

The video's original owner said, "we were attending a game at Central Highschool. A young student performed National Anthem and sounded amazing as it filled the entire gym, all without a microphone."

James Racine, who posted the video on Facebook in 2017, says Melton is a friend of his. Racine's post has garnered over 31 million views and has also been shared over 533,000 times. It is unknown why the video is going viral in 2018 despite being posted last November.

Commenters on Racine's video have compared Melton's rendition to Fergie, who sang the anthem during the 2018 NBA All-Star Game and faced criticism, saying that Melton's version was much better.
