WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) -- Uber is launching a new carpooling service that is expected to be 75 percent less than the cost of an UberX and half the cost of an Uber Pool.
Uber's new Express Pool targets customers who want discounted rides but are willing to walk a bit of a distance to your pickup destination or walk a bit of a distance away from your drop-off destination.
The distance which you'll be walking is determined by your driver but it will normally not be anymore than within 2 blocks of your current location.
As a customer, you'll probably have to wait longer for your driver with Express Pool versus Uber Pool or Uber X. A driver will let you know where to walk after you wait for a response for two minutes.
The concept is being tested out in Miami, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. on Thursday. It will be available in Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Boston and San Francisco beginning on Wednesday.
Normal sized cars will be used for this option for the time being.
