An intoxicated man was arrested after riding his horse on a California freeway

WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) -- A man in Long Beach, Calif. was arrested early Saturday morning for riding a horse on the freeway while he was drunk.

ABC 7 in Los Angeles is reporting the man has been identified as Luis Alfredo Perez. According to police documents obtained by the station, Perez had just turned 29 years old before being caught with his horse on the highway.

Perez was charged with a DUI and his horse was returned to his mother without any injuries.

"Don't put yourself, your beautiful animal or other in danger of being killed in traffic," California Highway Patrol stated in a tweet. "We get a chuckle out of the interesting situations we encounter from time to time, but one thing the CHP does not do is 'horse' around with DUI."

The Highway Patrol also jokingly wrote in another tweet, "no, you may not ride your horse on the freeway, and certainly not while intoxicated."
