Police: Father saw strange man reaching for his daughter as she walked to school

VANCOUVER, Ore. – Vancouver police are investigating a report of a man who tried to abduct a girl on her way to Walnut Elementary School Tuesday.

Police say the father was walking in front of the girl around 8:30 a.m. when he turned and saw a man reaching for his daughter.

When the man noticed the father saw him, he began walking the other direction, entered a white van and left the area.

Police say the suspect is a white man who was clean-shaven. He’s in his mid-20s to late-30s and was about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall. He weighs about 180 to 200 pounds.

He was wearing a black beanie, a black hooded sweatshirt with the word “Portland” in white letters and a possible tribal design on it and dark-colored cargo pans.

The suspect vehicle is a 2012 to 2015 white van, possibly a Dodge, with an extended or higher rooftop, like a work van. It did not have any distinguishing marks and the father did not see a driver in the vehicle.
