YouNeek Studios brings black superheroes to the forefront

It’s huge weekend for Marvel fans as thousands hit movie theaters to see "Black Panther." But he’s not the only black superhero around.

Roye Okupe created YouNeek Studios, a comic company that specializes in creating black, African heroes. He started the company after noticing there aren’t many heroes that look like him. Since beginning in 2012, Okupe has received a lot of recognition.

He was named No. 5 on Ventures Africa’s list of 40 African innovators to watch in 2016 as well as being part of NewAfrican Magazines’ 100 most influential Africans of 2016.

Some of YouNeek's characters include Wale Williams and Malika: Warrior Queen. Roye says his goal is to put Africa on the map when it comes to graphic novels, animation & superhero stories. He hopes his stories will empower children and adults alike to chase their own dreams.
