Conway, S.C. (WPDE) — Shelby Taylor has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of the attempted murder of her baby daughter, according to a news release from the 15th Circuit Solicitor's Office in South Carolina.
Police said the baby girl, named Trinity Grace, was left for dead in a dumpster with her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck back in 2015.
Taylor was found guilty by an Horry County jury a week ago and was sentenced by Judge Robert E. Hood today, Feb. 15.
Trinity Grace, 2, is being raised by her biological grandparents.
“The case is also an opportunity for citizens to become informed about South Carolina’s Daniel’s Law, which gives mothers in crisis a safe way to give up their babies at designated locations such as a fire station, police station, hospital or occupied church,” Chief Deputy Solicitor Scott Hixson said. “We appreciate the hard work by law enforcement and those involved in this case to ensure the infant survived this ordeal and that justice was served in the case.”
