GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Prosecutor David Leyton says they have charged a 47-year-old Flint, Mich. parolee with open murder and attempted arson in the death of a Grand Blanc Township, Mich. woman.
David Reid is accused of killing 53-year-old Ranee Mckelvey who was found dead Sunday, Feb. 11 in her South Hampton Avenue home. She was found after co-workers checked on her when she didn’t show up for work. Leyton says she was found lying face down on her bed. Authorities believe she was asphyxiated.
Autopsy results are pending, according to the prosecutor’s office. Authorities say upon checking her home, it was discovered the natural gas line behind the stove had been turned on and the house was filled with gas.
There were also candles burning and authorities believe Reid intended to burn the dwelling, , according to the prosecutor’s office.
Leyton says Reid is on parole for assault with intent to commit great bodily harm. He had recently moved into Mckelvey’s home. Police say she met him on the dating site “Plenty of Fish.” Police arrested him in Detroit without incident.
Reid is expected to be arraigned in 67th District Court.
