WASHINGTON (WJLA) - Two goalies for the U.S. women's hockey team will reportedly be allowed to continue wearing their masks with the Statue of Liberty on them during the Olympics after reports that officials asked for the images to be removed.
Nicole Hensley and Alex Rigsby both wear goalkeepers' masks with the statue on them and USA Today said that the International Olympic Committee had asked that the images be taken off the masks.
USA Hockey has since said that Hensley and Rigsby were authorized to wear the masks and that they would not be changed, according to ESPN.
The IOC bans gear that features "the wording or lyrics from national anthems, motivational words, public/political messaging or slogans related to national identity," ESPN says.
Team USA beat Russia 5-0 on Tuesday and the game included a 13-save performance from Hensley.
