Man arrested in connection with murder of 24-year-old mortuary student

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) - Columbus Police said an arrest was made in connection with the murder of a 24-year-old mortuary student.

Court documents revealed Rachael Anderson was tortured, and the suspect was accused of using her car and debit card to steal money from her bank account.

The man was arrested in the Linden area the evening of Feb. 8 without incident per police. Columbus Police instructed journalists to not release his name or his image due to a chance of compromising another investigation.

Anderson had recently moved to Columbus to study to be a mortician. She was discovered "concealed" in a closet in her east Columbus apartment on Jan. 29. Court documents showed she died of asphyxiation.

She was nearing the end of an apprenticeship at Shaw-Davis Funeral Home, and when she didn't show up for work, co-workers called the police.

The suspect has a violent criminal past going back decades, including convictions for attempted murder, robbery, and rape in Franklin County in 1982.

We will continue to update this developing story.
