WASHINGTON, D.C. (WJLA) - President Donald Trump says it is "disgraceful" that an Indianapolis Colts linebacker died in a crash involving an undocumented immigrant who had been deported twice.
26-year-old Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and his Uber driver Jeffrey Monroe died Sunday after they were hit by a pickup truck driven by 37-year-old Manuel Orrego-Savala on Interstate 70 in Indiana.
Orrego-Savala is a citizen of Guatemala and was living in the country illegally, police say. He was arrested after the crash and police say they believe he was driving drunk and without a license.
"So disgraceful that a person illegally in our country killed Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson," Trump tweeted on Tuesday. "This is just one of many such preventable tragedies."
Trump added that Democrats need to be stricter on illegal immigration and said his prayers are with Jackson's family.
According to the Associated Press, Orrego-Savala was deported in 2007 and 2009. Police say he gave them a fake name when he was arrested.
