A PetSmart groomer was fired after video of her treating a dog roughly went viral, reports KTRK
While visiting a PetSmart outside Houstan, Texas on Thursday, Zahiana Jenkins Terah Leder saw an employee abusing a Shih Tzu she was grooming, so Jenkins recorded it and waited for the owner to pick up the dog.
The women showed the dogs owner, Brooke Vowers, the video and she posted it on Facebook where it went viral.
"Just took my dog to get groomed and as I’m walking out this lady comes up to me and said she’s been waiting for an hour to see who’s dog this was because of how mean the groomer was to her and that she called corporate," Vowers wrote in the post. "She sent me this video i am sick to my stomach about it and will not be going back.
In the video the groomer is seen repeatedly jerking the Shih Tzu’s snout multiple times and aggressively yanking on the dogs ears.
On Friday after the video went viral Vowers said, "It's unfortunate someone had to loose there [sic] job but I truly hope this is an eye opener to new policies with grooming monitoring in the future!"
A PetSmart spokesperson responded to the video, saying the treatment of the dog was "completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated."
“The associate was immediately terminated," they said in an email Saturday. "At PetSmart, we all love pets, and this video does not represent who we are as a company.”
