Like the meat industry, sometimes its frustrating to watch how exactly some of our favorite entertainment is made. Take for example, the case of Coachella. Goldenvoice CEO Philip Anschutz -- which runs Coachella-- it turns out, has been giving money to far right, and anti LGBT organizations, anti immigration organizations and anti marijuana organizations. Now you would think you would need all three -- LGBT, immigrants and marijuana, to run a good music festival, but hey, this guy is just being toxic left and right! Anschutz claims he has stopped giving money to these organizations after an initial uproar, but this does not seem to be completely truthful. Should we boycott Coachella? Should the artists do anything about this? Here to discuss this complicated issue are our regular CircaPop Live hosts -- Ryan Mitchell and Shira Lazar, along with a special guest, Johnathan Brewer II.
Johnathan Brewer II's show "Home Made Simple" can be seen on the OWN network at 9 am. But what of the matter at hand? Shira thinks that if a backlash hasn't happened yet, it's surely on the way -- especially considering how progressive so many of the bands in question are. Johnathan wonders if its the size of the paycheck that keeps the artists quiet. Shira wonders if the artist could come together to begin their own festival, and Ryan points out that's sort of what Tidal was. Ryan thinks this won't effect Coachella in the long run, but maybe Coachella should be taken over by a more progressive person.
