Andy Allo talks Kim Kardashian and cultural appropriation

Are they Bo Derek dreads or tone deaf cultural appropriation? That’s the question on the lips of those who’ve seen Kim Kardashian's controversy causing Instagrams showing the reality show star with braids -- with many saying that the braids are meant to replicate African American hair. The whole saga even has a quick side journey with Kim and Lindsay Lohan throwing shade at each other. Here to discuss the key appropriation issue are our hosts, Shira Lazar, Ryan Mitchell and our special guest -- musician Andy Allo.

Andy Allo recently released her four song EP 'One Step Closer' and recently starred in Pitch Perfect 3 and 'The Hero' starring Sam Elliot. Her opinions on the issue are complex. Being a biracial woman herself, she discusses the responsibility that Kim Kardashian has to her biracial children to teach them awareness -- and that she shouldn't treat all press as good press. There is a way, Andy discusses, to celebrate the culture and give credit where credit is due without objectifying it. Likewise, the difference between irony and ignorance is thinner than it seems -- and awareness is key.
