Family: 7-year-old Virginia boy dies after contracting flu, strep throat

WSET — HURT, Va. (WSET) - A seven-year-old has died from the flu, according to family who spoke to NBC 12 in Richmond.

The family said Kevin Baynes, Jr. was sent home from school on Friday after throwing up and falling asleep in class.

He was then taken to the ER on Saturday where, his father, said, doctors gave him a couple prescriptions after he tested positive for the flu and strep throat.

The boy's father said he slept most of the day Saturday, but couldn't hold down any food or water and the next morning, when his older sister tried to wake him, he was cold and not breathing.

After calling 911, Baynes was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, the family said.

The little boy's body will be taken to the Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Family and friends have set up a GoFundMe Page to help cover the cost of his funeral.
