Vincent Johnson had to take matters into his own hands Saturday afternoon when he encountered a violent dog at the Okeeheelee Dog Park in West Palm Beach.
Johnson and other witnesses say the dog was a pit bull.
“I had one hand in the dog’s mouth while he had the other dog’s face and throat in its mouth,” Johnson said.
After killing a Yorkie, the bloody dog then leaped for a child. That’s when Johnson stepped in.
With his 6-foot-7 frame, he felt like he was the only one in the park who could contain it.
Johnson says the dog was about 90 pounds.
“Fighting a dog like this would probably mean a finger or my neck or an eye," he said. "But a little girl’s life? You don’t really weigh that."
Somehow he managed to control the dog until Palm Beach County Fire Rescue came. However, he sustained deep cuts to his neck and hands.
The dog is currently being held by Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control.
Fire crews said the little girl did not have to be taken to the hospital.
