DELAWARE, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) — A 28-year-old man from Hilliard, Ohio was found dead from gunshot wounds in Delaware Thursday evening. Police have identified the victim as Ali Al Azirjawi.

Investigators say they found Al Azirjawi when they responded to reports of a shooting on Stratford Road just before 7:00 PM. The accused shooter, Bryan Pemberton, 33, was arrested at the scene.

Police say they believe Al Azirjawi arrived at the Stratford Road location for a child custody exchange and then was shot. In a call to 911, a woman who identified herself as Al Azirjawi's fiancee said her ex, the child's father, shot him.

In court Friday morning, prosecutors revealed more details about the shooting. They said Al Azirjawi arrived with Pemberton's ex, Abbey Scherler, and the couple's 1-year-old child. That's when Pemberton allegedly came out of his house with a shotgun and fired into the car, killing Al Azirjawi.

Pemberton and Scherler's 7-year-old child was also at the scene, but investigators didn't say whether she saw the shooting or was inside the home at the time.

Prosecutors allege Pemberton ran to a nearby auto dealership and told employees there what he had done.

A judge ordered Pemberton be held on $5 million bond.
