Jessica Chastain is paying it forward, literally. According to her friend, fellow actress Octavia Spencer, Chastain is responsible for closing the wage gap between the two in an upcoming movie.
Speaking at a panel at the Sundance Film Festival, Spencer talked about how her former "The Help" co-star increased her pay significantly.
Spencer says the two stars were talking about the gender pay gap when she said something that shocked Chastain.
Women of color don't make as much as white women.
After comparing prior salaries, Spencer says she left her co-star speechless. That's when Chastain decided it was going to stop there.
She negotiated their deals for the upcoming holiday comedy together. That ensured the two actresses would make the same amount of money for the film.
Spencer says that she also recently found out that they both were going to get paid five times what they originally requested.
Telling the story brought Spencer to tears and she says she's glad her friend is "walking the walk" instead of just talking about the issues.
Actress Jada Pinkett-Smith later applauded Chastain and called on more people to be just like her.
