Police: Newborn baby girl found dead in trash bin

CLOVIS, Calif. (FOX26) — An investigation is underway after police say a newborn baby girl was found dead in a trash bin.

It happened Wednesday just after 8:00 a.m. in the area of Minnewawa and Alluvial in Clovis, Calif.

According to the Clovis Police Department, a caller reported there was something bloody in her residential trash bin and found blood on her driveway near her gate.

When officers arrived, they found the body of a newborn girl in the trash bin.

Clovis police officers and Clovis detectives then began an investigation.

Police say through investigation they found that 18-year-old Angelena Hamilton gave birth to a child at home. Hamilton was not at the residence when officers arrived.

Officers later found Hamilton and she was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

Detectives then interviewed Hamilton, who told officers that she gave birth to the baby early in the morning. We're told Hamilton failed to provide medical attention for herself or the child after giving birth.

Detectives say Hamilton's family did not know she was pregnant or that she had given birth to the child.

Hamilton was booked on charges of involuntary manslaughter and endangering physical injury to a child.

The investigation is still being conducted into the circumstances of the child’s death.
