Secret Service: Man with loaded gun inside vehicle arrested outside White House

WASHINGTON (ABC7) — A man was arrested outside the White House early Tuesday morning with a loaded gun inside a vehicle, the Secret Service said.

The incident was first reported as a suspicious vehicle around 2:30 a.m. in the area of 15th St. and New York Ave., NW, according to authorities.

A DC police report states that 43-year-old Bryan Mchugh of Alexandria, Virginia, told responding officers that the vehicle "contained a pressure switch with extra gasoline" but after searching the vehicle the officers deemed it safe.

Shortly before 5 a.m. the vehicle was towed and the scene was cleared, according to officials.

Mchugh was charged with possession of an unregistered firearm and ammunition as well as carrying a pistol without a license.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel with D.C. police and U.S. Park Police assisted the Secret Service in this incident.
