Screenjunkies' Hal Rudnick weighs in on the Oscar Nominees

Oh my gosh, have you seen the new Academy Award nominations? They were so ridiculously mind meltingly good. Guillermo Del Toro's "The Shape of Water", Greta Gerwig's "Lady Bird" and Jordan Peele's "Get Out" -- three brilliant, odd, important (in the real way, not the "prestige drama" way), and idiosyncratic movies. Beyond even those, there were Academy Award nominations for Kobe Bryant for his animated short "Dear Basketball". It's a very good batch, and here to discuss it are our Circa Pop Live hosts -- Shira Lazar and Ryan Mitchell -- and our special guest, ScreenJunkies' own Hal Rudnick.

On ScreenJunkies Hal Rudnick regularly breaks down the tropes and weirdnesses of the latest cinema hits -- so no question we would want him here to discuss Hollywood's biggest awards. Hal Rudnick discusses how "The Shape of Water" is good except the woman "f**ks a monster" in it. (Shira offered the much more nuanced, and frankly correct take on this subtle tale of love and beauty). The gang then wonders who in the end will take home the big award. Could it be Greta Gerwig? Could it be Jordan Peele? Something else? Look, they're all great films! Come on movies! Make me smile!
