At first glance, the koala in this Facebook post below seems to be just climbing up on a wooden post...but it's actually dead and screwed into place.

This photo of a dead koala found screwed into a wooden post by its paws has sparked outrage in Australia, according to BBC News.

Australian animal welfare authorities are investigating the Wednesday discovery of the koala, which was found by council workers in a park in Queensland, Australia.

It is not yet known how the koala died. Its fur was matted with blood, and gum leaves had been hung in front of it.

It's just sick, it makes me want to throw up," said Murray Chambers from Koala Rescue Queensland, the BBC reports.

"I've been doing this job for 10 years and I've never seen anything like it."

Koala Rescue Queensland, a not-for-profit group, posted the picture of the animal on Facebook in hopes of finding those responsible.

The perpetrator could face animal cruelty charges if found, animal protection charity RSPCA said.
