Singer Seal says Oprah Winfrey is “part of the problem” with sexual misconduct after the television star’s recent speech on the topic sparked speculation she will run for president.
“When you have been part of the problem for decades but suddenly they all think you are the solution,” he said in a pair of Instagram captions Wednesday alongside two photos of Winfrey with Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.
“Oh I forgot, that’s right….you’d heard the rumours but you had no idea he was actually serially assaulting young stary-eyed who in turn had no idea what they were getting into,” Seal continued. “My bad.”
Seal’s post included the hashtag #SanctimoniousHollywood, and one of the images showed Winfrey seemingly kissing Weinstein’s cheek.
Winfrey’s rousing remarks about sexual misconduct during last Sunday’s Golden Globes Awards ceremony ignited chatter she will launch a 2020 White House campaign.
The former talk show host voiced solidarity with the #MeToo movement, which emerged last year when women worldwide began sharing their struggles with sexual misconduct.
“I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day is on the horizon,” Winfrey said in Beverly Hills, California.
“And when the new day finally dawns, it will be because a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say ‘me too’ again.”
Scores of women accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct last year, including harassment and rape.
The resulting scandal cost Weinstein his job at the powerful movie production company he co-founded.
Multiple powerful men across fields including entertainment, politics and media have since faced similar allegations as women speak out on the problem globally.
