Each year, the Pennsylvania Farm Show creates a gigantic sculpture made of butter. You read that right: out of butter. In fact, they use half a ton of it. One thousand pounds of butter. Julia Child once said that you can't have enough butter but I'm guessing she never made it to the Pennsylvania Farm Show.
Each year the sculpture has a theme. This year, the sculpture celebrates the diversity of Pennsylvania's dairy industry.
The dairy industry accounts for a whopping $5 billion in economic revenue for the state.
The sculpture is kept in a special encasement to keep it at the perfect temperature lest they have 1,000 pounds of melted butter, which would couldn't be carved into anything. I'm guessing the encasement also keeps butter-lovers' fingers from ruining the work.
At the close of the show, the sculpture will be breaded and deep fried. Not really, I made that part up. But deep fried butter IS a thing at county fairs.
