Go ahead and chalk it up to the game. If you're single and dating, just know that all of your dates will not go peachy. In fact, anticipate it. There are very few people who have never had at least one bad date in their life. It could turn into a fantastic story later, but in the moment, it could feel really bad.
Anything can make a date go terribly wrong. The person you're dating could be boring, cheap, or rude. Or even worse, the date could turn scary or violent.
Reading dating horror stories makes me want to lock myself in my apartment and never leave.— meaghan (@BEGGlN4MEAGHAN) January 3, 2018
People we talked to say they keep a contingency plan just in case everything goes sideways. One woman said she has a friend call midway into the date telling her there's an emergency. Another woman said she always planned her dates so they could be short so she can have an early exit. Someone else said they text their mother the play by play of the date to let her know how it's going, just in case their date tries to kill them.
Snapchat had a bunch of dating horror stories to read today. & The concept of cheating is something I will never understand. Very high on my list of shitty things people do.— Kayla Noelle. (@KaylaCreature) January 3, 2018
There are a number of apps to help you get out of a bad situation, too. NPR reported about the app 'Expect Me,' which will let a friend know if you don't show up to your destination. There's also "Angel Drink," which signals a bartender or server that you want help to exit a situation.
But not all bad dates are that severe. And sometimes it's not always the other persons fault. But again, you can chalk them all up to the game.
