Country music singer Carrie Underwood has revealed she needed over 40 stitches in her face following a recent fall.
Underwood also broke her wrist during the tumble last November, which occurred on the steps of her home in Nashville.
“It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life,” she wrote in a note to her fan club members Sunday, according to People.
“In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well,” Underwood continued.
“I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told [Underwood’s husband] Mike [Fisher] that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in.”
Underwood also suggested that her accident last year may have an impact on her physical appearance.
“I honestly don’t know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful,” she said. “I am grateful that it wasn’t much, much worse.”
“I am determined to make 2018 amazing and I want to share things with you along the way,” Underwood continued.
“And when I am ready to get in front of the camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different.”
Underwood underwent surgery last year after breaking her wrist after slipping at her residence, an incident which also left her with “cuts and abrasions.”
The event left Underwood unable to perform at the Country Rising benefit show taking place at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena soon after.
Fisher married Underwood in 2010, and the former National Hockey League (NHL) player retired from the organization’s Nashville Predators franchise last August.
Underwood called Fisher “the best hubby in the world” last year after he traveled overnight to Nashville to help her after her fall.
