I love Mariah Carey. We all love Mariah Carey.
But her performance last year on ABC's Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest was a debacle. A complete disaster.
Here is her 2017 NYE performance just in case you don't remember what happened.
For those of us who watched it live it was cringe-inducing.
As you can see, technical difficulties plagued the pop icon's performance as she complained about the inability to hear the monitors.
And of course Twitter unleashed its wrath on the singer:
With 15 minutes remaining before the New Year, 2016 claimed its final victim: Mariah Carey’s career.— nic 💜 (@nicginz100) January 1, 2017
I tried to sing along to Mariah Carey but even Mariah Carey can't sing along to Mariah Carey— amber g (@Ambergeckle) January 1, 2017
But you don't have a 20+ year career and multiple number ones without the ability to bounce back.
Ms. Mariah, took the stage for NYE 2018 at the center of Times Square, and came back strong like the DIVA that she is, and conquered the stage-- singing live in subzero degree weather, while in a fur coat and a crystal dress.
After singing her debut single "Vision of Love" and right before starting her hit song "Hero," Mariah, seemed to be a little conscientious of her singing, suddenly asks for some hot tea.
“Happy New Year! Just want to take a sip of tea if they’ll let me. They told me there would be tea. Oh! It’s a disaster. O.K. Well, we’ll just have to rough it. I’m going to be just like everybody else with no hot tea. But we’re going to try and do this one for you.”
(The hot tea moment happens at 2:35.)
And with that performance redemption came to Ms. Carey.
The 'Lambilys' took to Twitter to proclaim that her performance was sooo much better than last year's.
MARIAH the legend CAREY is singing in what feels like -7° weather and y'all WILL appreciate these raw vocals! Happy New Year! 🎉— I was told there would be tea. (@analchanteuse) January 1, 2018
If Mariah Carey can perform on New Years again after last year, then you can do anything you believe. Happy New Year, and may 2018 be great for everybody!— Paul Palumbo (@paulumbo) January 1, 2018
And guess what somebody finally gave Mimi her hot tea!
