Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima says that she will no longer display her body for “an empty cause.”
Lima, 36, added that she was inspired to rethink her career moves after a friend told her she was “unhappy” with her physique.
“And in that moment I realized that [the] majority of [women] probably wake up every morning trying to fit in a stereotype that society/socialmedia/fashion etc imposed,” she wrote on Instagram Sunday.
“I thought that’s not a way of living and beyond that…. That’s not physically and mentally healthy, so I decided to make that change,” the Brazilian fashion star added.
“I will not take [off] my clothes anymore for an empty cause. #Embraceyouself #natureisbeautiful #naturalisssexy #LOVEYOU.”
Lima also admitted she struggles with her own personal “things/insecurities” and wants to help change how the world treats women.
“We as women can’t be continuing living in a world with such superficial values,” she said. “It’s not fair for us.”
“I want to change it, on the name of my grandma, my mother and all her ancestors that has been labeled, pressured, [misunderstood],” Lima added.
“I will make that change…I will start with me. I refuse to embrace that. I am next to you. And I will stand by you.”
💜I had received a call for the possibility of filming a sexy video of me to be posted and shared in social media. Even though I have done many of this type, something had changed in me, when a friend approached me to share that she was unhappy with her body, then it made me think.... that everyday in my life, I wake up thinking, how do I look? Was I going to be accepted in my job? And in that moment I realized that majority of woman probably wake up every morning trying to fit in a stereotype that society/socialmedia/fashion etc imposed.... i thought that’s not a way of living and beyond that.... that’s not physically and mentally healthy, so I decided to make that change..... I will not take of my clothes anymore for a empty cause.....💜✨ #Embraceyouself #natureisbeautiful #naturalissexy #LOVEYOU 💜✨
People on Sunday reported that Lima’s post inspired some of her fans to speculate that her remarks were directed at Victoria’s Secret.
Lima told People last month, however, that she hoped to perform at least two more runway appearances for the lingerie company.
“I plan to be at 20,” she said after her 18th event for the brand in Shanghai. “Two more years. Maybe more. I don’t know.”
“It’s nature,” Lima added. “I’m working out, I’m being healthy, so let’s see how the body is going to turn out. But I enjoy it. So let’s say 20.”
