Some things turn up in the oddest of places. An Edmond family learned that the hard way after taking their 4-year-old Shar-Pei to the vet, our affiliate KOKH reports.
"In 20 years, this is the craziest surgery I've ever done," said Dr. Chris Rispoli, a veterinarian at Gentle Care Animal Hospital.
Rispoli has been caring for Dovey since she was a pup. He says when her family brought her Wednesday to be examined, he was immediately taken aback by her appearance; Dovey had clearly lost some weight.
"Dad said grandma had seen her jump up on the counter and grabbed one of the baby's pacifiers and they had been missing a lot of pacifiers,” Rispoli said.
An X-ray would later reveal Dovey knew exactly where those missing pacifiers were, leaving her family in disbelief.
"They were pretty stunned,” Rispoli recalled. “Because we thought there were seven to nine in there, and I pulled out 21."
It's an unusual case, but it comes with a simple reminder.
"Put things away,” urged Rispoli. “Don't leave them on the counter top.”
Dovey is now doing better and is all set to return home to her pacifier-proof home.
