The color experts at the Carlstadt, New Jersey-based Pantone say the deep purple shade was chosen to "evoke a counterculture flair, a grab for originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking."
Even NASA approved the choice of Ultra Violet as they tweeted that many of the images they take from space are taken in ultraviolet.
We like Ultra Violet too! #DYK that we take images of space in ultraviolet? Capturing images in this light removes the distraction of normal stars like our Sun, revealing only the hottest stars and star-formation regions! https://t.co/RPhbmMAHIL pic.twitter.com/U3iw3kKEUP— NASA (@NASA) December 7, 2017
The 2018 color of the year follows 2017's "Greenery," a grassy fresh, revitalizing shade that reflected new beginnings.
