National Football League (NFL) star Marquise Goodwin says that his baby son recently died following his wife’s pregnancy complications.

“I just wanna thank those who’ve genuinely prayed for @morganakamomo & myself through out this pregnancy,” he said Sunday on Instagram, referencing his wife Morgan Goodwin-Snow.

“Unfortunately we lost our baby boy due to some complications, and had to prematurely deliver him early this morning around 4am,” Marquise Goodwin continued.

“Although we are hurt, I am grateful for the experience and grateful that God blessed me with a wife as courageous and resilient as Morgan.”

Marquise Goodwin – who is a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers – additionally called on fans to pray for him and his wife.

“The pain (physically, mentally & emotionally) that she has endured is unbelievable,” he said. “Please Pray for the Goodwin family.”

Goodwin played in the 49ers game against the New York Giants on Sunday. He ultimately delivered his team’s biggest play of the year so far en route to San Francisco’s 31-21 victory.

The wide receiver caught an 83-yard touchdown pass from quarterback C.J. Beathard in the first quarter, completing the longest play from scrimmage by a 49er this season.

Marquise Goodwin evaded Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins during the play, blowing a kiss to the sky upon scoring the touchdown.

The football player’s teammates then surrounded him in the end zone while he knelt in prayer after the feat.

Sunday’s win was the 49ers’ first this season, but Marquise Goodwin quickly exited the locker room after Sunday’s game to return to his family rather than celebrate the moment.

The 49ers have a bye this week and will not return to practice until Nov. 20, after which they will try building on their 1-9 record.
