Golden retrievers are helping Sutherland Springs cope with tragedy.
The Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Comfort Dogs are helping victims' families, survivors, and law enforcement. The dogs provide a friendly face, a paw to hold, and a quiet, listening ear to those who often don't feel ready to speak about trauma and tragedy with anyone else.
"We had boots and paws on the ground within 24 hours."
The pack travels the country following natural disasters and mass shootings to provide therapy. At Sandy Hook Elementary, there's still a comfort dog present every day at the school.
The dogs are getting ready to return home to Illinois, but stuffed animal versions of the pups will remain in Sutherland Springs for anyone who needs comfort.
