Rapper Fetty Wap is facing scores of charges after he was arrested for allegedly drag racing early Friday in Brooklyn, New York, according to People.
A New York Police Department (NYPD) spokesperson told People that Fetty Wap was allegedly found racing another vehicle in a Mercedes on the Gowanus Expressway around 1:21 a.m. local time.
“[He was] in the vicinity of Hamilton Avenue driving recklessly at a high rate of speed causing a dangerous condition while racing another vehicle within the confines of the 72 precinct,” the spokesperson said.
ABC 7 NY on Friday reported that police saw Fetty Wap driving a black 2012 Mercedes CLS AMG during the incident.
Police said that Fetty Wap then handed the officer who pulled him over a suspended New Jersey driver’s license.
The officer detected signs of intoxication and next gave Fetty Wap a field sobriety test, which he failed by blowing a .09.
Fetty Wap, whose real name is Willie Maxwell II, then failed a second sobriety test at the nearby precinct.
The rapper was charged with reckless endangerment, illegal speed contest, operating a motor vehicle with .08, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
Fetty Wap was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, motor vehicle license violation, unsafe lane change, following too close and illegal signal.
The musician’s final charges included driving while alcohol impaired and four counts of speed violation.
TMZ reported that Fetty Wap was traveling above 100 MPH in a 50 MPH zone during his race with the other driver.
Fetty Wap first gained fame in 2015 with his debut single “Trap Queen,” and has since scored other Top 10 hits like “679” and “My Way.”
The lyricist was born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, and he lost his left eye after being born with glaucoma.
