Translation: Here's what the new iPhone emojis look like on Android


Apple released iOS 11.1 this week, and packed inside of the update are 240 new emojis for your iPhone.

But, before you go shooting them out to all your friends, you should know that on most Android phones these new emojis look like this:


If the person you're emoji-ing with is on a phone that hasn't adopted the Emoji 5.0 list of characters – and as it stands right now, the only non-iPhone handsets that have are Google's Android 8.0 Pixel and Nexus phones – then what they're going to see in their message is just a box with an X in the middle of it.

On top of that, even when your Giraffe or Exploding Head Face emoji does reach your Android 8.0 buddy, it's not going to look the same as it does on your Apple device. And we know that can sometimes result in a communications problem. Here's a sample showing some of the differences with the latest emoji releases:
