The baker behind the 'pimple cupcakes' says business is booming thanks to her gross looking treats

If you’ve been on social media lately, you might recognize a head-turning, stomach-churning video. The poppable cupcakes are homemade by a Skiatook, Oklahoma baker named Aspen Jackson.

Dubbed "pimple cupcakes," the edible pimple popping treats went viral after being uploaded on Facebook recently. Now, the video has more than 42 million views. "It went crazy. We did not expect it at all," said Jackson.

"“There's been a lot of mixed reviews about them. I've had people say they were just hilarious, and I've heard people say they're disgusting."

She made the cupcakes as a custom order for a local doctor’s office. They told her to make them as gross as possible, which gave her some creative freedom. “The grosser the better is what she told me. So, I just kinda went for it," said Jackson.

The cupcakes might be hard to look at but they're made with delicious ingredients. Jackson says she baked a vanilla cupcake with cream cheese frosting on top. She then covered the cake with fondant, added a little red coloring to make it look irritated and then ended with some clear piping gel.

"The piping gel around the top makes it look a little bit grosser," said Jackson. Now, business is poppin' all thanks to these blemish cakes. With so many different bakeries in town, she feels confident her pimple cupcakes set her apart from the rest.

“You want to do something a little bit different. It's fun to be outside of your comfort zone."
