The Disney Channel is producing its first LGBTQ relationship on its show Andi Mack — and the story is the first in the storied channel which caters to tweens. It’s a big step for the channel which has a sizeable and ever growing young audience, and tries to reflect and teach younger kids how to deal with issues and anxieties in their life. Adding an LGBTQ storyline is going to move the company forward on telling these kinds of stories and including these kinds of communities that before did not have representation in this kind of programming. Discussing this progressive move on CircaPop Live are Shira Lazar, Ryan Mitchell, and special guest, star of American Vandal and Freakish, Saxon Sharbino.

The trio discusses the plot. Ryan believes this is an incredible good, as it brings the issue to little kids. Shira Lazar brings up a friend who wonders if this could make the situation a tempest in a teapot — a big deal made out of so little, something Shira disagreed with because, folks, it’s a new modern era. Ryan however disagrees with that — any conversation had about this is good as it will make kids more aware. Then he added, “No shade”.
