R&B Singer Justine Skye took a knee while performing the national anthem at the home opener for the Brooklyn Nets, according to the Associated Press.
Skye was nearing the end of her performance when she kneeled as she sang ‘brave’-- the last word of the anthem.
“We recognize that tonight’s national anthem singer kneeled briefly at the end of her performance and we were not aware that she was going to do so,” a Nets spokeswoman said.
Players from both teams stood along the foul lines during her performance.
Skye is an artist signed to Roc Nation and is best known for her 2014 hit, ‘Collide’ featuring rapper Tyga.
