A man finds a $24 million lottery ticket in an old shirt

A New Jersey man found a lottery ticket worth $24 million in his shirt.

On Wednesday, the New York Lottery released Smith's name after completing a review.

"We are thrilled that this lucky winner was able to locate this life-changing ticket," Dean, of the gaming commission, said.

More than a year ago, 68-year-old Jimmie Smith bought a ticket to the New York Lotto he said he found it in a lost shirt that he hung up in his closet.

"I always told myself, 'I'll check them when I have the time," Smith told CNN.

The winning numbers for the May 25, 2016 drawing were: 05 - 12 - 13 - 22 - 25 - 35. Smith says he was surprised when he found the winning lottery ticket in his shirt.

"I had to stick my head out the window and breathe in some fresh air," he said. "I was in serious doubt. I really had to convince myself this was real."

The New York Lottery announced that the winning ticket would expire May 25, 2017.

Smith, who has two kids and 12 grandchildren, chose to receive his payments over the course of 26 years, according to CNN.
