A Texas Tech student confessed to killing a cop after he was busted with drugs in his dorm

Texas Tech student Hollis Daniels, 19, was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed a University police officer at the campus police station on Monday night.

Campus police initially brought Daniels into the station for questioning after they allegedly found evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia in his dorm room.

During a news conference, Texas Tech Police Chief Kyle Bonath said Daniels shot the officer at the station and tried to flee the scene. "During this time, the suspect pulled a gun and mortally shot an officer,” he said. “The suspect then fled on foot and later apprehended by campus police near the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum."

According to the police affidavit, Daniels ripped off the officer's body camera after the shooting. The camera was recovered by police along with the gun used in the shooting.

Meanwhile, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement about the shooting late Monday, saying "hearts go out to the family of the police officer killed."

Abbott also said he mobilized state law enforcement resources to aid in the investigation.
