Tom Petty was pulled off life support

Tom Petty was pulled off life support after showing no brain activity, TMZ reports.

The website says the family has a do not resuscitate order and while he is clinging to life, he is not expected to survive the day. A chaplain has also been called to Petty's hospital room.

The artist was found unconscious in his home and was rushed to the UCLA Santa Monica Hospital on Sunday night.

The gossip blog says Petty is currently on life support after suffering from a full cardiac arrest. Reports surfaced on Monday afternoon that Petty passed away. CBS News cited information they received from the Los Angeles Police Department, but the LAPD responded on Twitter saying they have no information regarding the singer's passing and did not have a role in the investigation.

People Magazie also reported the singer's passing citing their own sourcing. The magazine has since pulled back and only references CBS' previous report.

Petty recently finished his latest tour in Los Angeles last week.

Petty also has two scheduled tour dates in New York on Nov. 8 and 9, according to his Facebook page.

Petty is a member of the band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Petty is best known for his single, "Free Fallin'," which has over 32 million views on YouTube.
