Lebron James said that President Donald Trump is using sports to divide the country, hours after the president withdrew his White House invitation to Stephen Curry.
In a video, the basketball star said that he was “frustrated” because “this guy that we’ve put in charge has tried to divide us once again.”
“We all know what happened at Charlottesville and the divide that caused and now it’s even hitting more home for me now because he’s now using sports as the platform to try and divide us,” James said.
“We all know how much sports brings us together, how much passion it has, how much we love and care and friendships and everything it creates. And for him to try and use this platform, even more, it’s not something I can stand for, it’s not something I can be quiet about,” he added.
James urged Americans to "come together."
“This is a very critical time and me, in the position I am, I had to voice this to ya’ll,” he said.
James's remarks about the president comes a day after Trump announced on Twitter that he was rescinding a White House invitation to Stephen Curry after the basketball star said that he would not go to the White House to celebrate the Warriors' title.
