The Golden State Warriors issued a statement on Saturday in response to President Donald Trump's announcement that he would not invite the Warriors to the White House.

"While we intended to meet as a team at the first opportunity we had this morning to collaboratively discuss a potential visit to the White House, we accept that President Trump has made it clear that we are not invited. We believe there is nothing more American than our citizens having the right to express themselves freely on matters important to them," the statement said.

This comes hours after President Trump fired off a series of tweets on Saturday criticizing Stephen Curry's hesitation to visit the WHite House.

"Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team. Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!" Trump tweeted from his golf club Bedminster, New Jersey.

A few hours later, President Trump wrote, "If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL,or other leagues, he or she should not be allowed to disrespect our Great American Flag (or Country) and should stand for the National Anthem. If not, YOU'RE FIRED. Find something else to do!"

Trump's comments on Curry created a firestorm on social media. LeBron James took to Twitter on Saturday and called the commander-in-chief a "bum."

A few hours after President Donald Trump rescinded his White House invitation to Stephen Curry, Lebron James took to Twitter and called the president a "bum" on Saturday.

The Golden State Warriors player wrote on Twitter, "U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain't going! So therefore ain't no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!"

President Trump rescinded his White House invitation after Curry said on Friday that he didn't want to visit the White House if he was invited to celebrate the Warriors' title.

“I don’t want to go,” Curry said. “That’s kind of the nucleus of my belief … (But) it’s not just me going to the White House. If it was, this would be a pretty short conversation.”

Trump later responded to his comments on Twitter and wrote, “Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team.Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!”

President Donald Trump tweeted Saturday morning, that he is rescinding his invitation for NBA star Stephen Curry to visit the White House.

"Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team. Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!" Trump tweeted from his golf club Bedminster, New Jersey.

It remains unclear whether Trump was rescinding the invitation for Curry or the Golden State Warriors as a whole.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told ESPN the team planned to meet to decide whether they would visit the White House to celebrate their NBA championship win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Curry told reporters Friday that he doesn't want to visit the White House and hopes the move will send a message to Trump.

"That we don’t stand for basically what our President has – the things that he’s said and the things that he hasn’t said in the right times, that we won’t stand for it," Curry said. "And by acting and not going, hopefully that will inspire some change when it comes to what we tolerate in this country and what is accepted and what we turn a blind eye to. It’s not just the act of not going there."

Several other Warriors players, including Kevin Durant, have said they don't want to celebrate the team's title at the White House.
