The singer Jennifer Lopez announced on Wednesday that she has finally heard to her relatives in Puerto Rico.
In an emotional Instagram post, the actress wrote: "After a long 6 days we found the last of the family! Now the rebuilding begins!!"
This comes after the singer/actress said she hadn't heard from her family in Puerto Rico amid Hurricane Maria. The singer and her ex-husband Marc Anthony encouraged their followers on social media to donate money to hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico.
Approximately 3.4 million residents in Puerto Rico are without electricity and power after the hurricane struck the island. In addition, more than 95% of Puerto Rico’s wireless cell sites are out of service, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez said that she hasn't heard from her family members in Puerto Rico since Hurricane Maria struck down on the island on Wednesday.
In a heartfelt Instagram video, Lopez, who is of Puerto Rican descent, asked her followers to donate to relief efforts in Puerto Rico.
"What’s on my mind is what's going on in Puerto Rico. The devastation is beyond belief,” said Lopez.
"Me and my cousin still haven’t been able to hear from our families over there," she added.
Currently, more than 3.5 residents in Puerto Rico do not have power in their homes due to Hurricane Maria. The category three storm has killed at least 18 people as of Friday afternoon, according to ABC News.
"What’s foremost on my mind and many others is trying to figure out the best way to help," she said. "Puerto Rico has been hit by two of the most devastating hurricane we have ever seen — Irma and Maria."
Other stars such as her ex-husband, Marc Anthony, and Ricky Martin have called on their fans to donate money.
