A 1-year-old boy is in critical condition at a Tennessee hospital after police say he was thrown from a vehicle during an altercation between his parents on Wednesday.
"The child was thrown from the vehicle and is at Le Bonheur (Children’s Hospital) in extremely critical condition, and this is an ongoing investigation," said Maj. Stephen Oliver of the Memphis Police Felony Response unit.
When the officers arrived to the Autumnwood Apartments in southeast Memphis, they found that a shot had been fired at a 2001 white Honda Accord. Police said no one was hit by gunfire.
The child's parents were detained after the incident, but no charges have been filed, according to USA Today.
One resident at the apartment complex said that her husband heard screams.
"My husband heard the mother hollering 'My baby,' and then we called the police," Jasmine Austin told USA Today. "It was scary to wake up to police cars and someone screaming. I'm praying for the family."
Police said the incident is still under investigation.
